PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. (TCD) — An investigation is underway after a boy reportedly died of injuries from a shooting this week.

On Monday, April 29, at approximately 11:13 p.m., deputies with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home off Ruth Way to a report of an assault with a firearm. Authorities arrived and attempted lifesaving measures on a juvenile victim, identified by WSB-TV as Zander Whatley, who later died from his wounds.

The sheriff’s office said, “The investigation is in the early stages,” as they are working to develop leads.

The victim was reportedly inside his home when he was shot. The boy’s father told WSB that a group of men were having issues with his other son and allegedly approached the residence and opened fire.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the victim was a few weeks shy of turning 12 years old when he died.
