“Current AI (and troll farms) can pass 2Are you a bot?2 with ease. The onslaught of fake accounts also uses up the available namespace, so many good handles are taken as a result.”

In a further reply to another account questioning the approach, Musk said the fee might only be in place for the first three months after a new user joins the platform.

The billionaire said eradicating fake and bot accounts was a key priority for him when taking over the platform in late 2022.

  1. It’s understandable why some X users might feel frustrated about the new fee, but we also have to acknowledge the challenge of tackling fake accounts and bots in today’s online space. I believe Musk’s efforts to clean up the platform are commendable, although the impact on the user experience should also be carefully monitored.
