Singapore now holds the world’s most powerful passport, as Spain slips from its previous top spot, new research has suggested.

According to the latest rankings from VisaGuide.World, based on factors such as visa-free access, eVisas, and global mobility, the Singaporean passport scored an impressive 91.27 out of 100 as of September 2024.

After Singapore, European countries dominate the top of the list, with Spain taking second place at 90.60, followed by France (90.53), Italy (90.31), and Hungary (90.28).

The UK, however, ranked far lower at 35th, scoring 87.07 and falling significantly behind many of its European neighbours.

The US fared even worse, landing at 40th place with a score of 86.20.

Only one other non-European country, apart from Singapore, secured a place in the top 20, with Japan finishing at 15th.

VisaGuide’s passport index evaluated a total of 199 countries and territories and, according to Euro News, their ranking is considered to be one of the most reliable ones within the travel industry, along with the Henley Passport Index.
