I was wondering when the X discussion would bite. It already has and it will likely cost Trump votes.
UAW Files Federal Labor Charges Against Trump, Musk
The Wall Street Journal reports UAW Files Federal Labor Charges Against Trump, Musk for Threatening Workers
The UAW, one of the country’s largest unions, filed charges of unfair labor practices Tuesday, alleging that both men threatened workers who participate in protected labor activity, such as strikes.
Trump made the remarks Monday night in a conversation with Musk that was broadcast on X.
“I mean, I look at what you do,” Trump said during his conversation with Musk. “You walk in, you say, you want to quit? They go on strike, I won’t mention the name of the company, but they go on strike and you say, That’s OK, you’re all gone. You’re all gone. So, every one of you is gone.”
“When we say Trump stands against everything our union stands for, this is what we mean,” said UAW President Shawn Fain.
The UAW endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign last month.
Musk has previously disagreed with the idea of unions. Speaking at a conference last year, Musk said unions “try to create negativity in a company, and create a sort of lords and peasants situation.”
“If Tesla gets unionized, it will be because we deserved it and we failed in some way,” Musk said. “But we certainly try hard to ensure the prosperity of everyone.”
Musk’s Comment on X
“The last two UAW presidents went to prison for bribery & corruption and, based on recent news, it looks like this guy will join them!“
I can all but guarantee that comment will cost Trump votes.
I agree with Musk on this: “If Tesla gets unionized, it will be because we failed in some way.”
But today’s comment about UAW bribery was an unforced error.
I think the lawsuit is silly. But silly or not, Shawn Fain’s comment will bite.
Discussions From Last Night
I found the conversation last night to be very boring. Trump did little but brag about how amazing he is so I turned it off.
My Tweet unleashed a torrent of negative comments but some support.
Let’s start with someone who agreed.

I did not listen to the whole thing, but based on what I did hear, that reply sums it up.
The Rah Rah Side
Mario Nawfal provided a string of 7 Tweets moaning about media coverage but ending with the above.
He can now add the WSJ.

Agree with this viewpoint: “For anyone who didn’t get to listen last night. Elon and Trump on repeat. Our legacy corporate media should listen so they can quit misquoting or taking out of context what was said.”
Sensible People Enthralled?
Get a Grip
The only people “enthralled” with the discussion were those who were going to vote for Trump anyway.
Everyone else heard Trump brag about how great he is with Musk as the front man.
I missed the union exchange. It will cost Trump votes.
The Challenge
Harris would be wise to accept. She would get a million views too.
Conclusion
For those of you who are enthralled (or want to be enthralled), please listen to all two hours and tell me why we should be enthralled given the negative UAW feedback already.
It does not matter if the lawsuit is unfounded. What matters is whether or not the Twitter Space will cost votes or not.
Fortunately, UAW’s Shaw Fain does not represent the views of all the union voters, but some will be swayed by his message.
Trump Fires Arrows Missing the Target Badly
Meanwhile, I repeat “It’s the economy, stupid.”
The question of the day remains: Trump Fires Arrows Missing the Target Badly, Will a Recession Save Him?
