Ukraine launched another devastating drone attack on an oil refinery in Russia, causing a major fire to break out.
Kyiv’s army has repeatedly targeted oil refineries, airbases and ammunition warehouses in a series of carefully calibrated attacks designed to disrupt Putin’s powerful war machine.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, UAVS attacked the Atlas refinery in the Rostov region of Russia.
Two drones hit the depot, causing a huge explosion and igniting a fire in three fuel tanks at the plant.
A local resident reported hearing an explosion at around 3.00am, telling local media: “Atlas is on fire again. I’m scared to sleep.”
Video images show a raging inferno with massive balls of flames leaping into the night’s sky, as thick black smoke pours from the facility.
The Atlas refinery belongs to Rosrezerv and specialises in storing petroleum products.
The plant also supplies fuel to the Russian army and was previously attacked by drones in early August.
Rostov’s governor Vasily Golubev claimed that air defence systems had intercepted and shot down four UAVS.
“At about 03:00 at night, 4 UAVs were shot down in the Rostov region,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
“According to preliminary data, there were no casualties. The information is being clarified.”
This is the second time a major oil depot has been targeted by Ukrainian drones this month in the Rostov region.
A fuel plant was set ablaze in Proletarsk on August 18th after being hit by UAVS in a clinical strike.
About 20 diesel fuel tanks, each with a capacity of five thousand cubic metres, caught fire and burned for days.
Ukrainian drones also targeted an ammunition warehouse on Wednesday morning in the village of Malaya Mezhenka in the Voronezh region.
Aleksandr Gusev, the region’s governor, said “drone fragments caused a fire near explosive objects. There was no detonation.”
