A train crash in Germany has left “many people injured” and several seriously hurt.

It is believed that the passenger service collided with a parked train on the adjacent track at around 7.28am local time in the city of Moers, about 40 minutes from Dusseldorf.

According to the city of Moers, 30 people were on the train at the time of the accident with 16 people injured, three of them seriously.

A spokesperson for the federal police confirmed that medical treatment had been delivered to the injured whilst those without physical injury would be given “psychological support”.

A police spokesman denied previous rumours that the RB31 had collided with a freight train.

The route is closed in both directions as police and paramedics attend the scene and continue investigation work.
