If you thought the start of spring meant wet weather was on its way out, you’re out of luck.
Most Australians will need to pack their raincoats and umbrellas when they head outside over the next few days, with much of the country set to experience a rare September soaking.
Here’s what the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) says is in store for where you live, and when.
Western Australia
Some parts of Western Australia have experienced a drenching for days — and it’s set to continue.
There will be a chance of thunderstorms in the north and east Kimberley and eastern parts of the North Interior on Wednesday. Those areas will also be subject to showers, as will other parts of the state’s east.
On Thursday, showers and a chance of thunderstorms are forecast across most parts of the Kimberley, inland Gascoyne, and inland parts of the South West Land Division.
Showers are expected across most of WA on Friday, with a chance of thunderstorms in some parts of the state.
Northern Territory
Like WA, parts of the Northern Territory have already been hit by wet weather this week.
The Carpentaria District is the only part of the Top End forecast to avoid rain on Wednesday, with a slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms elsewhere. The chance of showers and thunderstorms will be high south of Daly Waters.
The slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue across large parts of the NT on Thursday, gradually clearing from the south in the afternoon and into Friday.
South Australia
South Australia has already experienced moist conditions this week — and it’s expected to get more.
Showers and patchy rain are forecast for Wednesday, with the potential for thunderstorms in the north.
The wet weather is expected to start clearing up on Thursday with isolated showers expected in select regional parts of the state, before a dry day on Friday.
But that relief may be short-lived with the potential for another band of showers or patchy rain to move across SA on the weekend.

Queensland
Wednesday’s set to bring patchy rain, scattered showers and possible thunderstorms to southwestern Queensland. Scattered to isolated showers are expected for the state’s east coast, north of Ayr.
Scattered to widespread showers and patchy rain will spread across western, central and southern Queensland on Thursday, with isolated showers on the tropical east coast north of Townsville. There will also be a chance of thunderstorms west of Goondiwindi.
Showers are forecast across much of the state on Friday, including Brisbane, with the chance of a thunderstorm in central and southern Queensland.
NSW
After a drier start to the week, Wednesday will be a wet one for NSW with scattered to widespread showers forecast across the southern, west, and central areas of the state.
Those damp conditions are expected to continue on Thursday as widespread showers and rain drench the eastern half of NSW and scattered showers fall in the west.
Friday’s set to bring widespread rain to the northeast of the state, with moderate to heavy falls possible on the Mid North Coast. Scattered and isolated showers are forecast for the rest of NSW, except the far west.
ACT
There’s a very high chance of rain in the ACT on Wednesday and Thursday — but it’s set to be a bit drier by Friday with just a medium chance of showers.
Victoria
Victoria’s set to plunge back into winter-like conditions on Wednesday with areas of rain and scattered showers hitting much of the state, including Melbourne.
Scattered showers will continue in the north and east on Thursday, with isolated showers developing on and south of the ranges.
It will be mostly dry across Victoria on Friday, with isolated showers in the north and east during the morning.
Tasmania
Tasmanians can expect showers on Wednesday, with the potential for small hail to fall in the west and far south, including Hobart, later in the day.
Showers are forecast for the west and south on Thursday, with the fine conditions experienced elsewhere spreading across the whole state on Friday.
