Scammer Nabs 250K Military Documents in Epic Data Heist

A group of pro-Palestine hackers have claimed they hacked Israel’s Defence Force (IDF), unearthing a trove of top secret documents from their computers.

Anonymous, the hacker organisation, said it now has 20 gigabytes of data and nearly a quarter of a million documents linked to the Israeli military after the breach.

The documents include PDFs, Word files, PowerPoint presentations and more, the hackers claimed in a video.

But according to IDF security assessments, the chance a breach really took place is minimal.

Instead, the IDF has argued the hackers are deploying so-called “psychological warfare”.

That’s because the IDF’s computer system is highly secure, the security agency argues.

Files may have been taken from civilian computers instead in a major breaking of the law, but the likelihood IDF computers were breached is unlikely, it claims.

It comes months after Anonymous claimed to hack Israel‘s Ministry of Justice.

The group alleged that it obtained a staggering 8 million data files reaching up to 300 gigabytes.

Back in November, Anonymous released a video sending a message to Benjamin Netanyahu as the Israeli Prime Minster unleashed a retaliatory bombing campaign on Hamas in Gaza.

They said in the clip: “Greetings, citizens of the world.

“We are Anonymous Global, and we have a message for Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli government.”

“Our vigilant eyes have been watching the atrocities committed against Palestinians in Gaza under your leadership.

“The ongoing bombardment has resulted in unimaginable devastation, with thousands of innocent lives lost, including over 4,000 children, and many more injured and displaced.”

“As an international community, we are outraged by these actions. We call upon you, Benjamin Netanyahu, and your government to cease these endless attacks on Gaza immediately.”

But the latest warning to Israel from the hacking group comes at a time when the death toll is much higher. Latest estimates from the Hamas-run Health Ministry say the death toll is over 44,000 as Israel‘s assault on the Gaza Strip rages on

  1. It’s alarming to see the amount of sensitive data that the hackers claim to have obtained from the IDF. However, considering the high level of security of the IDF’s computer system, the chances of an actual breach seem slim. This might indeed be a case of psychological warfare aimed at spreading fear and uncertainty.
