MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ala. (TCN) — A former FBI agent and state trooper will spend the rest of his life behind bars for sexually assaulting a young child over the span of several years.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office announced Aug. 1 that a judge sentenced Christopher Bauer to life in prison for sodomy and 20 years for sexual abuse. A jury found Bauer guilty of the charges in June.

According to prosecutors, on April 23, 2021, the victim, who was 11 years old at the time, told her friend that she was being sexually assaulted by Bauer. The victim testified that she had been molested by the defendant since she was 5 years old. Three days later, the friend reportedly told her mother, who alerted the victim’s school.

School officials reported the allegations to the Montgomery Police Department, and authorities arrested Bauer that same day.

The district attorney’s office said Bauer worked as an Alabama state trooper and as an FBI agent in New Orleans. He reportedly got a job with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency using a forged letter from the FBI after he had been let go from the bureau for multiple sexual misconduct claims.

According to The Associated Press, a woman who accused Bauer of rape worked with him at the FBI. In an application for a restraining order, she alleged that Bauer had choked her. Bauer denied the allegations and said they engaged in consensual conduct, The Associated Press reports.

In court, the victim’s mother reportedly told the judge, “He’s a monster,” and, “He had everyone fooled.”

Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey said, “It is always extremely disappointing when someone who is supposed to enforce and uphold the law commits a crime against the people they have sworn to protect.”

Bailey added, “I commend the victim for having the courage to speak up about what was happening to her. She was so brave throughout her testimony, which was undoubtedly difficult for her.”
